I'M BACK ...

Photo taken at the Kinabalu Shell Press Awards 2009 at the Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort where I received the Gold Award for Sports Journalism Award for English Section.

It was my first gold award since 2005 and am glad to have won it for The Borneo Post. I have won four gold in 2002, 2003 (two) and 2005 in addition to silver in 2006 and a merit award in 2008.

I was also a winner for the Best Sports Writer (English) award from Sabah Youth and Sports Ministry in 2006.

Not bad for an achivement, I think, since I took up the profession eight years and seven months ago.

Thank you all for your supports especially my wife (didie) who asked me to send in entry for the just concluded Press Awards. Same it goes to my parents, siblings and relatives as well as colleagues and friends.

Now, where should I go from here ... that is the most important question that needs thorough consideration ... I hope to find the answer soon.

On the other hand, I may have the answer to the question.

SJA kalah tipis 0-2 and saya saya tia dpt main...last minute tarikh diri kerana sakit flu and fever. Akhirnya jadi penyokong sahaja ... hahaha ...

Lebih kurang tiga hari sebelum itu, SJA lawan UMS tapi setelah memberi tentangan yang sengit, masih kalah tipis sekali 4-5. Itu game saya ada main jadi left-back ... buli juga lah ... kena cop sudah jadi defender kan.

The countdown starts today (Feb 23) ... Good bye to 20s ...

It's less than three weeks, to be exact 19 days starting today (Feb 23) before I say good bye to my 20s ... I will officially be in my 30s on March 13 and what are my feelings ??? I can't say much but for the past 29 years and 346 days, there have been ups and downs but in most occasions I think I have done my best that propelled to where I am today. I would not dare to say that I'm living a perfect life because it is not for a fact but I have always been a patience, low-profile kind of person and it has helped me a lot. However, I know there are rooms for improvement on my part and I will strive harder to achieve them, It would not be easy but I'm willing to challenge myself to be better. I'm lucky to have an understanding wife, very supportive parents and siblings whom all are very important to me and of course my relatives. Turning 30, for me, will be interesting and I can't wait for the experience ahead of me. God bless us all...amen.

Bah, today Jan 19 is the first day on then fourth week of the year ... well nothing much to write here apart from wishing u all a happy New Year 2009 if that is not too late. Just for information, I might be going to the Kiulu 4M Challenge on Jan 25. It was initially scheduled last December but postponed due to bad weather. If I do go, hope to win some cash for extra money for CNY - pa lagi untuk main katam-katam, lap lap fu, bandak, kuah merah, cho tai di, mahjong, poker etc...

Halo Smua, lama tia update blog tapi memang sibuk bah...sampai balik kionsom pun jarang cos sampai lewat malam kerja.

Ini saja lah gambar sia dapat ambil untuk kenangan masa buat liputan tu badminton di Likas dari Dec 18-21.

Ok juga lah coz dapat interview ramai pemain hebat dunia seperti Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Zhou Mi, Taufik Hidayat etc. Tapi tidak lah bergambar sama pemain-pemain ni coz malu, bukan kami ja ramai penonton yang pi minta gambar...takkan mau ikut kan...hahaha

Tapi yang bikin dissapointed and spoil was the withrawal of Chinese players so never had the chance to interview Lin Dan in particular. Klu kamu masi ingat Zhao Zian Hua, Chen Hong pernah sudah interview masa dulu-dulu...

These photos were taken during the Kiulu 4M Challenge in 2006 (if I'm not mistaken) ... this is rafting section of the Challenge and you can only look at the photos of me (in front) and partner JJ (now with NSTP KL) enjoying the event.

The Kiulu 4M Challenge consists of four traditional sports. The ‘M' in 4M stands for the four Kadazandusun sports comprising of managkus (running 6 km), mamangkar (bamboo rafting for 5 km), manampatau (swimming with bamboo for 1.3 km) and mamarampanau (walking with bamboo stilts for 0.2 km). (these distances are for the Open category).

All four are indigenous, adventurous and thrilling events that will test your physical and mental skills.

But, we competed in the media section and the running section for us involved only 200m while the rest are the same (bleh tahan juga lah kan).

Now, I am waiting for the Kiulu 4m Challenge 2008, to take place at SK Malangang, Kiulu on Dec 7.

p/s: In 2006, I can't remember our team's final position but still we won cash prizes. in 2007, comprising the same line-up we finished fourth...for media section lah...

A Dead Lizard Worth RM240...

I've just got my car back after sending it to workshop this morning and I got the confirmation from the mechanic (Anthony) that it was a dead lizard inside the evaporator. Wow...how on earth did the 'Cicak" got inside I don't know. But, one thing for sure I had to pay RM240 for all the servicing made on the vehicle, which I had to admit was done professionally and thank to the mechanics. Imagine they had to 'bongkar' the dashboard just to find the lizard. Now 'bulan muda' has already turned to 'bulan tua' for me and it is only the sixth day of the month of October as I write this post.

P/S --- Thank you to Willie for lending his car for me and sending me to the workshop.

Lagi Pasal Kereta MyVi Ku...

I can't figure it out why I encounter problem with my car!!!!! The latest started on Sunday morning and became worse today, the smell was very disturbing as if there's a dead lizard (or frog because I discovered one not long ago) inside the car. To make it even worse, I think it is stuck in some parts that have connection with the air-cond. So, for the time being, no air-cond or else suffers.

Tinggal beberapa hari lagi sebelum Hari Raya tiba, tapi di KK sudah terasa bahang becoz time-time begini lah tambah jam and sesak lalu lintas di City area, sudah dua hari termasuk today. Maklum lah mau kasi ready-ready for the celebration kan...tiap-tiap kali menjelang perayaan besar memang camtu. Anyway, untuk semua terutamanya rakan-rakan Muslim sekalian, SELAMAT Hari Raya.

"Siapa Duluan Kahwin" Analysis

First of all, thank you for taking part in the voting and I believed everyone exercises your duty very well.

I included 10 names (which of course I forgot about Noah but on the other hand, he is unpredictable and a man of many surprises, so it did not matter lah).

The names are Clarice who polled 13 percent out of the total 29 votes, Juvie (20 percent), Charlie (44 percent), Lesser, Suzanne, Rachel, Willie and Bryan (all 17 percent), Terrence (13 percent) and Alistair (55 percent).

After much thought and other possibilities, I have to discard those on 17 percent category as well as Terrence.

Alistair, our primary five cousin, polled the highest with 54 percent but then again, he is too young to overtake any of those included (common sense lah).

So, it is left with Juvie, Clarice and Charlie. THEY ARE THE CLEAR FAVOURITES.

All three have partners and time will tell when they announce their engagement and subsequently wedding.

Of the three, I certainly think Charlie will get the honour of getting married first and then Clarice and Juvie.

I chose Charlie and Clarice in the top two because for Clarice, she had given hints in her blog while Charlie openly said that he would go first if no one would.

As for Juvie, I doubt she would go second because Charlie will be the first (must have break in between mah).

Anyway, I predict next year will have many aramai tiii occasions...no matter who "kahwin" first.

Malang nya kereta ku ...

It was on Sept 18 (thursday), I was driving out of donggongon town, I saw a few very rajin punya grass cutters doing their job lah and as I praised diorang penat-penat kerja just to make the area neat and clean, suddenly ... bang!!!Plang!!!Bang ... terkejut sia and my wife. We stopped and checked the car, ada kemek and sikit di depan kereta I think becoz of tu batu kelikir terbang kena to machine potong rumput...ooi sakitnya ati ku...tapi sia biarkan saja lah coz dorang pun bukan mau camtu kan, nanti ada duit bru kasi cantik balik tu kereta lah...

Syok juga dah klu dapat cuti...

Bigini lah reporter punya life, ini bulan betulx2 kering story becoz puasa and today bertambah kering lagi lah abis cuti umum kan. Anyway, happy Malaysia Day to alllllllllllllllllllllll.....

IT all started one month ago (to the date of that very unfortunate day - wee hours of Aug 25).
The month of August was much anticipated...the Olympics, Climbathon and Sabah Shell Press Awards. I enjoyed the Olympics and shortly after it ended, came the climbathon from Aug 23-24, dua hati lah konon mau pi kundasang becoz sudah tujuh tahun turut-turut sia cover, well make it eight lah this year and I went there to report for the Borneo Post, tidak berapa syok ni tahun coz at the same time many events were happening in Kota Kinabalu. Ni tahun kami tdk pun pigi karaoke di hotel perkasa (now nama tu hotel sudah changed but sia tia tau...lupa dah) minum-minum, cuma pi ranau, minum whisky yang Roy Goh bawa then balik bilik tidur.
So, lepas ja abis di kundasang, turun KK lah and kira-kira jam 6pm sampai, pas ambil bini then terus p beli batik (bini yang pilih and memang cantik, harga baju baru RM29.90) untuk pakai di Press Award.
Tersangkut juga lah satu award tu malam which was Merit Award for Sports Journalism (Memang sia jangka sudah tu coz rival paper punya entry kuat), menang RM500 pun happy juga lah.
I was tired after a hectic week and becoz of that, I think it made me wanted to drink more during the Press Award (free flow mah siapa tia mau kan). memang minum banyak lah tu beer tapi satu silap sia was failing to learn from past lesson - Sia campur campur minuman tu malam. I simplified it to this equation BEER + CHIVAS = MALAPETAKA.
I said so becoz in 2001 the same thing happened, I was tired, minum banyak and campur with red wine lah tu masa, akibat dia I fell asleep while driving and ended up masuk longkang di depan tanah perkuburan kionsom.
Fast forward it to Aug 25, 2008, I decided to go back home at around 2:30am and after a male friend that I could not recalled baik hati called me to ask whether I'm okay to drive. I told him I was okay and then ended the telephone conversation. The next thing I knew, Malapetaka struck.
I ran over a roundabout in Tanjung Aru and ended up with three torn tyres and a damaged crank case (yang bekas engine oil di bawah kereta). I still managed to park it nicely in front of a nearby supermarket before policemen in a patrol car came. I kept calm and admitted drunk driving, so minta tolong Roy ambil lah antar pulang but si Willie ngam2 limpas sama kawan dia so tumpang dia lah p kopungit. Sia tau bini marah betul tapi dia professional and asked whether sia okay lagi(lucky ada bini yang penyayang).
The next morning sia pi ambil lah kerate mau antar p workshop and my goodness, sia tingu tu track tayar di roundabout, that was when i noticed i just missed a lamp post and concrete decoration at the roundabout by a whisker, meaning sia jalan di tengah-tengah and if I had langgar one of those, memang teruk lah tu kereta or more importantly nyawa sia.
Body kereta tiada apa-apa cuma scratches di front bumper. So tayar and crank case saja lah, after sudah buat semua the total cost was RM857...menang RM500 pun tidak cukup mo bayar.
Tetapi, that was not the worse thing that happened to me. Itu semua sia tidak kisah but this one incident...betul betul very unlucky...pepatah melayu Sudah Jatuh Di Timpa Tangga Memang ngam lah to describe me that morning.
While waiting for the tow car to arrive, I went to the bus station to find shelter from the hot morning sun. Suddenly, bau tahi pula. Sia cari-cari di bus stop tiada pula until sia cek kasut sia, adumak!!!!! sia terinjak tahi, kalau sikit tia apa, satu tapak kasut kanan sia. To make matter worse, itu bukan tahi anjing atau binatang, tapi orang punya...tia tau orang gila mana p berak d celah-celah tu bunga-bunga behind tu bust stop...memang malang lah nasib sia tu pagi.
Anyway, more or less three weeks have passed and all are back to normal.
Thank God...I could still see and be near with the people that I truly loves - Irene my wife especially, family members, relatives and friends.

Kalau mau balik kionsom mesti limpas itu Talimakas. Sekarang lagi musim hujan, itu batu selalu lari and kadang-kadang ada yang besar. Kesian itu Myvi punya bumper depan, kosondot and banyak sudah 'scratches' and hilang warna....huh...kalau mau limpas mesti mau super perlahan, kalau lucky tidak lah kosondot tapi in the past few days tidak pernah miss, mesti kena punya. Hari Khamis (July 24) saya ada pigi lah kasi bagus and ada ok sikit sudah. Harap-harap tidak lagi hujan kuat and banjir di Talimakas...hahaha.

KENANGAN BERHARGA ... terfikir masa kecil dulu time cuti sekolah, di Talimakas lah antara tempat main sama adik-beradik, cousins and kawan-kawan kampung. BESTTTTTTTT.

World number one Roger Federer lost in the second round of the Masters Series Toronto. Obviously he has not been at his best this season, losing in the semifinal of the Australian Open, a drubbing final lost in the French Open and surrendered his five-year reign at Wimbledon in an epic final against Rafael Nadal, who also beat him at the Roland Garros.
However, Federer will have my fullest support in the remaining year in which the Olympics and US Open top of his list.

Maxis invited reporter (one each form each local newspaper) to watch the Malaysia-Chelsea game and being a sport reporter, my name was among the first to be mentioned by a fellow staff but I said, "Thanks, but no thanks...I'm not a Chelsea fan."
Thinking back, it would be a great experience to watch the star-studded Blues in action in Malaysia but on the other hand, It is better for me to watch it on TV. In the end, it was my colleague Desmond Qwek who reluctantly agreed and good luck to him.

WHAT IF .... I would have grab it at first offer if it were MANCHESTER UNITED playing.

I was sitting and 'yum cha' with some friends a few days back in an indian shop (just below our office) when suddenly a bottle was thrown off from a shophouse above. It hit a car (honda lagi tu) and just missed a family of five who was heading from a shopping complex...luckily no one was hurt.

This is not the way civilised people should act and something need to be done to educate them.
